The Perfect Mind
the perfect mind is a logical mind
God either exists or He does not. Existence obeys the law of the excluded middle.
If God exists God is the most perfect of all conceptions. He is not material He is Mind in the most absolute sense possible. The only possible objective for a person to have, is to align with what is perfect and that is encapsulated in the Perfect Mind.
This fellowship is the church, making the church a methodology for achieving perfection and the Bible a handbook for teaching the way to the Perfect Mind.
The Perfect Mind of the most perfect of all conceptions is not just an option, it is the only thing that gives us direction. Without the Perfect Mind there is no goal, purpose or ultimate meaning to the universe. We become or end up, without God, phenomenologists.
The way to the Perfect Mind is the way to the truth. The path to the truth is the narrow way, the way the rich cannot find nor the legalist nor many others, for many things will impede the journey to perfection.
The way of the phenomenologist is broad and essentially without boundaries for without God everything is possible in the way of lies. That is, everything is possible except the truth.
The Bible addresses the issue of the mind, portraying it as the center of thoughts, affections, decisions, and spiritual alignment. It stresses the need to renew and guard the mind, align it with Christ, reject worldly or carnal thinking, and focus on God for peace, transformation, and victory over sin.
The Bible teaches that believers must actively renew their minds to resist worldly patterns and discern God’s will.
Romans 12:1-2. “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Ephesians 4:23. “And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;”
A mind set on the flesh opposes God, while a mind governed by the Spirit brings life. The way of the flesh is the way of the phenomenologist.
Romans 8:5-7. “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.”
Colossians 3:2.”Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
Believers are called to adopt Christ’s mindset and share in His understanding.
Philippians 2:5. “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:”
This mind of Christ is perfect and represents the mind the believer is required to have.
1 Corinthians 2:16. “For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.”
Thoughts and imaginations must be brought under Christ’s authority.
2 Corinthians 10:5. “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”
Remember, we are not fighting flesh and blood, but principalities and powers. We are fighting lies made real by the imaginations of men. The things Scripture calls “idols”.
1 Peter 1:13. “Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;”
A mind fixed on God brings perfect peace; God gives a sound (disciplined, self-controlled) mind rather than fear.
Isaiah 26:3. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”
2 Timothy 1:7. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Philippians 4:7-8. “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
The greatest commandment includes the mind in that we are required to be guided in all things by a desire to emulate Christ in all things.
Matthew 22:37 (also Mark 12:30; Luke 10:27). “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”
1 Peter 5:8: “ Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”
James 1:8: “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”
The Bible consistently shows the mind as the main battleground where good and evil battle it out. We are either conformed to the world of flesh, or we are renewed by the Spirit.
See chapters Romans 8 and 12; Philippians 4; and Ephesians 4 for a fuller discussion.
The Bible presents renewing the mind as an active, ongoing process empowered by the Holy Spirit. It involves replacing old, worldly, or fleshly thought patterns with God’s truth, leading to genuine transformation (not just behavior change). This renewal is part of putting off the “old man” (sinful nature) and putting on the “new man” (Christlike nature). It is both a divine work and our responsibility—daily cooperation with God through His Word.
Romans 12:1-2.”I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Transformation refers to a metamorphosis. The renewal corresponds to a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. It is possible for the believer to discern and live in God’s perfect will.
Ephesians 4:22-24.”That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”
Renewal happens in the “spirit of your mind” (the inner attitude and thinking). It is sandwiched between rejecting the old self and embracing the new.
Colossians 3:9-10. “Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.”
Renewal comes through growing in the knowledge of God—filling your mind with who He is and what He says.
2 Corinthians 4:16. “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”
This is a daily process. Even when the body weakens, the inner person (mind and spirit) can be constantly refreshed.
Titus 3:5. “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.”
The Holy Spirit is the One who does the renewing. Being guided by the Spirit is an essential component of salvation and the ongoing process of sanctification. There is no way we can be saved by self-effort alone.
The Bible doesn’t just command renewal leaving it up to us to decide what this means, it gives us clear steps to take. We are to:
1. Fill our mind with God’s Word
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” (Psalm 119:11)
Let “the word of Christ dwell in you richly” (Colossians 3:16).
2. Choose what to have in our minds.
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” (Philippians 4:8)
3. Set our focus on spiritual things.
“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” (Colossians 3:2). “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:21).
4. Take every thought captive
“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5)
5. Gird up and stay sober-minded
“Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober...” (1 Peter 1:13)
6. Pray instead of worrying
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God... shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
The Results of a Renewed Mind are freedom from sin’s power. John 8:32. “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
The perfected mind is the mind of Christ as was given above by 1 Corinthians 2:16; and Philippians 2:5.
The renewed mind is saved from carnal thinking (Romans 8:6. “to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”)
Renewing the mind is not a one-time event. The believer needs to work consistently at removing the beam in their own eye. We need to eliminate parasitism as an option. When we reject parasitism as an option we can be guided by the Holy Spirit.
For those who are atheist or a phenomenologist and reject the idea of a perfectible mind, I have a few questions for you.
1. How does causation create reason?
2. How does time have direction if there is no future in a physical universe?
3. If there are no absolutes, how do we know what relativity is?
4. If we cannot directly observe reality but only see the effects how do we know the thing causing the effects exists or is physical?
