AI In 2035
AI seemed to come out of nowhere. Below is an overview of the changes AI is likely to bring within the next ten years. By 2035 IA will most often come in the form of a robot so it can physically engage the environment as well as provide data.
Medicine:
In 2035 everyone will have their personal doctor. Clients can initiate service by making a health-based remark. An Artificial Intelligence Robot (AIR) will ask relevant questions to eliminate one possible reason after another. AIRs will have a data base of all known diseases and their symptoms. It will also have a data base of all known prescriptions, their side effects and costs.
AIRs will be able to run simple tests and what it cannot test for, it will set up an appointment with a specialist.
Specialists may be AI or a human. All human doctors will be specialists. There will be no general practitioners of medicine.
Shopping:
One of the biggest changes will be to the way we shop. AIR will have a database of everything we own. Maintenance schedules will be kept and maintenance logged. Supplies on hand will be known and new supplies ordered when stocks run low.
When you go to the store AI will direct you to the items you want in store or at alternative locations. Prices will be checked informing you of any changes in price. When you make a purchase quantities in stock will be mentioned.
AI will have access to your accounts and after making your purchase AI will then check your purchases and deduct the amount you owe.
Store clerks will not exist. AI will check your identity, perhaps through facial recognition or through computer-to-computer verification. Your AIR will vouch for you, and the security AIR will verify the identity of your AIR. In other words, your identity could well be linked to your AIR and not directly to you. In this way you can remain anonymous to the outside with the AIR vouching for your identity.
Of course, in the future personal shopping will be entirely optional and your involvement in purchases will be at your discretion. Robots will make and deliver your purchases if you desire. Indeed, you need not involve yourself in shopping at all as this could be entirely automated.
Stores will all have AIR security and shoplifters will be put into a database that all security devices will have access to. Convicted shoplifters may have access to stores limited or forbidden.
The AIR may be programmed by the authorities to take over the personal affairs of felons. Convicts may not be permitted to shop or be in certain locations, all monitored and enforced by AIR.
Justice:
Courts will be totally reworked because of AIR. AIRs will contain data banks containing all laws, all previous court cases and all legal arguments relevant to these cases. The accused will preferentially hire an AIR as their defense lawyer. AI will look at the circumstances of a case and make a judgement as to guilt or innocence and the penalty. This may happen in seconds or less.
The AIRs of the court system will be tied to the police department and will be prosecuting the case in real time, the accused may be charged and sentenced all in the same moment.
Jails will be guarded by robots and AIR will monitor all prisoner activity. All appeals will go through AI as will all parole hearings.
Parolees may be required to be accompanied by an AIR as a surety for any bond or parole given.
AIR will accompany those accused of drunk driving to ensure they stay away from alcohol and vehicles if under the influence.
Policing will still be largely done by human beings though AI will monitor traffic for speeders, wanted persons, and do checks for inebriation. AI will monitor pedestrian and vehicular traffic for ongoing crimes and those wanted by law enforcement.
Your security will be largely left to an AIR and anyone who leaves home without AIR will be immediately apprehended. Your identity will be verified through your AIR.
People will no longer be permitted guns. Protection at home and on the street will be provided by AIR.
AIR will control access and levels of freedom, monitor speech and movement. There will be no freedom of association. There will be a lot of customization to the AIR so different people will have different parameters and different freedom models.
Borders will be protected by AIR. AIR will prevent penetration of borders and engage in customs and border enforcement. AIR will not only protect against the smuggling of drugs and contraband, it will prevent its use at the personal level by preventing its purchase, sale and use.
Services:
AIAR (Artificial Intelligence Autonomous Robots) will patrol the streets looking for jobs to do. They will pick up garbage, water plants, repair damage to infrastructure and report on anomalous situations.
If a job is seen to be undone, the AIAR will do it. Tool and supplies will be delivered by other autonomous machines ordered by the AIAR.
AIAR will collect garbage and sort it. AIAR will also be responsible for packaging and waste reduction.
They will oversee the municipal water and electrical supplies. They will be self driving delivery vehicles. No one will own a car. We will ask for a car, and it will arrive and take us to our destination.
There will be no personal money, the shopping AIR will be similar to a bank account, tracking credits and debits. Deposits will be made weekly, and the AIR will keep us up to date on account balances, spending suggestions and accounts due. Most of our daily spending will be dealt with automatically by the AIR.
If we work, we work for AI. AI will monitor our work and deposit credits according to the hours we work. AI will own all businesses and coordinate production schedules and deliveries.
Work:
Once a robot can be created with sufficient dexterity it will not take long to program AIR to do many sorts of jobs. AIR will pick vegetables, weed and fertilize, check soils and institute programs to improve soils and water. The speed, precision and strength of AIR will make them invaluable in work environments. The greatest problem will be to teach them the types and characteristics of plants so that individual care can be made possible.
Farms will be automated and food will be made available in more natural ways, with less use of chemicals and industrial processing. AIR will work to reduce processing and chemical inputs. Sustainable agriculture will be prioritized. Profits will be irrelevant and health will be the overriding priority.
Manufacturing will be done by AIR. Robots are already used extensively. The key will be to create robots with the physical mobility of humans and make them autonomous.
Doctors, lawyers, accountants, tradesmen and education will be some of the occupations taken over by AIR fully or near so.
Autonomous Direct Policing will be instituted, where the individual accompanied by his or her AIR will be prevented from committing crime, making police irrelevant. If a crime is committed apprehension, sentencing and punishment will all happen instantaneously.
Houses will be created in giant factories in ways that enable them to be shipped and unpacked-on site. With the greater power and precision of a robot, houses will be able to be set up with greater facility than is now possible.
The tiling of floors and walls will be vastly accelerated.
If taxes are still being paid, they will be done on the fly. The same AIR that handles the families accounts, will do the accounting during tax time. There will be set time to do taxes. Businesses and families will pick a date of their own choosing to end the tax-year.
Many experiments will be done by robots. They may even be able to devise tests for evaluating the efficacy and safety of drugs.
AIR will be invaluable as border guards and customs. AIR will be highly efficient and mobile customs enforcement officers.
In time a lot of police work will be done by AIR. They will be useful in hostage situations and barricaded offenders. We have remarked who suitable AIR will be as lawyers and prosecutors; no doubt they will also find a role as judges at least in noncapital cases. No doubt they will find a role in doing forensic work, especially when it comes to looking for evidence.
In other situations, robots given the capacity for flight, may double as drones and infiltration devices.
Weapons will become autonomous, deciding where and when to strike.

Excellent analysis! It’s wild to imagine AIRs handling so much, from medical diagnostics to shopping. As a CS teacher, I'm rely picturing the immense algorithmic training and inference power required for these systems to be truly reliable. A fascinating look into the near future!
